What carrier-provided supplies are for
Carrier supplies are designed to support the carrier’s own shipping network. That can include branded packaging, pouches, labels, and documents. They are useful when they match the shipment you are actually sending.
Do not build inventory around an old list
Names, sizes, ordering methods, account eligibility, and availability can change. A blog post or screenshot can go stale. Treat the official FedEx supply page and current service guide as the source of truth.
When FedEx packaging makes sense
- You repeatedly use the eligible FedEx service.
- The product fits the supplied packaging without excessive empty space.
- The branded appearance is acceptable.
- You have a reliable replenishment process.
When plain packaging may be better
Neutral packaging is more flexible when you rate-shop between carriers, need custom dimensions, or want consistent branding. It can also make inventory easier if the same box is used regardless of the selected carrier.
Free package versus total shipment cost
Never choose an oversized carrier package simply because the box costs nothing. The shipment may still be affected by dimensional weight or other rating rules. Compare the complete cost.
